I am a serial book purchaser. My problem has always been finishing anything that's non fiction. I have a multitude of amazing books by equally amazing Christian authors that I have with all good intentions started but never been able to finish. Part of me has thought that there are too many self help Christian books out there and if I need self help I should be spending my time reading the bible.I actually had no plans to buy the book I was simply going to do the video studies for the book club and benefit that way. Then she began speaking about what the book was about in a preview message and I was hooked. I have dealt with spiritual warfare, dreams visions and so many things at night.I have always felt a bit isolated and struggled with a lot of it because it's hard for people to understand or help me interpret so mostly I would keep it to myself. She talked about how the enemy uses that for his purposes keeping us isolated anxious and depressed. This struck a huge deep chord with me.For the first time it was like she was articulating something deep inside. She finally nailed what I had been trying for years to pinpoint myself. I feel better equipped not only to handle the way I deal and encounter my spiritual battle, but also how to better hear from the Holy Spirit in a tangible way each day. And not from some mystical perspective but with the evidence from the bible and seeking scripture daily.I feel like this is a launching pad for what Jesus is going to do in my life in a more tangible way than ever before. I know that He is preparing me and this only helped me to feel better equipped. It was huge to me how she talked about not serving man, not being the person to pray for everyone when other leaders are around, and recognizing in her shortcomings how Christ used her because she did it afraid. I know that is where I'm headed and I'm so grateful. It was like listening to a really good message but on paper. I'm excited to begin the book club tomorrow because I know I'll be reminded of the core points of the book and can continue to grow personally in my spiritual walk. It felt like she was a mentor and walking me through so much.For some who haven't or don't understand spiritual warfare I encourage you to read the entire book. It's hard sometimes for those who have grown up in a more conservative environment where maybe these things werent discussed to truly grasp everything but hold on I promise It will be worth it. I got this book last week on Tuesday and finished today!
I loved this book. It’s both a fun and easy read but there is so much meat within the book teaching about spiritual warfare. You open the pages to your best girlfriend sitting at your kitchen table with a cafe latte and truth of life, experiences and choices for you to make to either be a victim or be victorious as the enemy’s only purpose is kill, steal and destroy. A book that will remain on my shelves for years to come and be shared with others that struggle with seeing what the enemy is trying to do with them.
I started reading this book after a emotionally and physically draining week at work. I love how God met me using Havilah's words to remind me that I have the ability to power through the struggles, and not just barely scraping by, but VICTORIOUSLY. This book introduced me to new perspectives when it came to facing everyday struggles of life and how to continue moving forward through them.I love how Havilah communicates spiritual truths in an uncomplicated manner. She writes as if we were sitting at a table over coffee, she presents theological truths in a manner that is easy to understand AND apply to the day to day. This book reminds us who we are in Christ - we are WELL EQUIPPED to fight the everyday struggles (battles) that come our way. If you've ever felt overwhelmed, fearful or unsure of the next steps to take when your whole world feels like it is falling apart - PICK UP THIS BOOK!! So many biblical truths of encouragement await!!!You are STRONGYou are CAPABLEYou are WELL EQUIPPED
I’ve been a big fan of Havilah Cunnington ever since I first heard her speak at a women’s conference at my local church a few years ago. I’m super proud of her accomplishment of this book “Stronger than the Struggleâ€. I’ve never met Havilah in person but listening to her live , her website full of biblical teaching truthtotable.com , and now this book you just feel like you know her in person. She’s funny, and she can tell Really good story’s. Her book is amazing! She has a way of simplifying or making it easy to understand the truths of the Bible. This topic on spiritual warfare is true, and many Christians don’t get taught what they’re battling, or how to battle it. Great job Havilah!!! Can’t wait for another book!
In Stronger than the Struggle, Havilah Cunnington provides practical ways to understand and work through spiritual issues. She breaks down the scriptures, taking scenarios from her real life to help understand the lesson behind it. She also offers practical application to our own personal battles, showing readers things that are applicable to everyone, yet important to each unique situation.The tone is conversational, yet direct and clear. The chapters are in-depth, yet not so long that reading becomes a slog. I appreciated how scripture and commentary on it makes up a large part of each chapter, rather than being dominated by personal exposition. She does point out life lessons, but always backs it up with scripture. I found myself bolstered and encouraged as I read this book and can definitely see myself re-reading the whole thing or parts of it as I need more encouragement.I won an advanced copy of this book in a Goodreads giveaway, but I also ended up purchasing a Kindle copy. This review is my honest opinion.
