Wow I am shocked at how well this is rated. There is so much fan fiction that is better written. The writing is trite and cliched. The author needs new words, I lost count how many times the word "badass" and "hottie" were used. Even the plot manages to be so painfully predictable.Her attempt at writing a "badass" female character is rather insulting. Not only is the Bri a special Celestial (the rarest of the fallen), she's touched by all four arch angels, and Lucifer, and there's a prophecy about her and she has a special weapon that talks to her that that is so rare it's possibly the only one on earth. Yet she acts like a petulant tween, acting out to show she's "badass".The romance (and this is what the book attempts to hinge on) is terrible. I've read many stories of two characters that are opposites become attracted to each other. This one doesn't work. It tells and doesn't show. The main characters inner monologue basically goes from oh he's such a dick and I hate him, to oh he's so hot why do I feel this? Oh, I feel bad about his tragic past (because of course he has one) To oh I'm so in love with him.Cliches are abound. It's bad when you can finish the author's sentences before you read them. Also, Here's an example of the writing: "Lincoln Grey lit a fire within me. I wasn't sure if it was a good one or a bad one, but I was engulfed in the heat nonetheless."I rarely write reviews, but I'm just mind boggled that this was at the top of Amazons best sellers when I bought this book. I guess the only thing going for it is that it's hard to put the book down, like watching a train crash and burn.

OMG Leia Stone has done it again!!! I am so glad I ordered this book as it is seriously freaking fantastic! Everything she writes is... but WOW! Set in Los Angeles (one no longer like we know it) you have an epic battle of good vs. evil and the best cast of characters ever!!!!Brielle will steal your heart and you will want to be a part of her team! Shea is the most epic BFF ever. Lincoln will grow on you and everyone else is just as good.Tons of excitement, suspense as to wtf is going on and really just an epic read!! It has it all people... Angels, demons, shifters, mages, and the list goes on... everything you could want in a book! Read it! I promise you will not be disappointed... but you will be sad year 2 isn’t out yet! LOL

Strong independent female lead plus a gripping story of love, sacrifice, and loyalty. A must read if there has ever been one.

So, I'm a die hard Leia Stone fan. I've read every one of her books. And, I thought Dream Wars was her best work.Until I read Fallen Academy.Wow... So, I'd put Fallen Academy tied with Dream Wars. It was so good. This is Brielle's first year and she's sent to the school she's not anticipating. And, we get to learn all about her and her awesome guardians, fun best friend and her trusty sidekick, Sera. Ummm, Sera is me. She says stuff that I'd totally say and it's a fun time listening to her blade. No for real, Sera is her blade.*sighs* I can see you don't believe me on her blade name. You know what this means?You'll need to read the book. It's so good. It's great paced, good world building, great angst between her and her other half. It fun to read and never a dull moment. You'll open the first page and before you know it... you're readingTo be continued...And you'll be frantically screaming inside that surely it's a joke, that's there's more and you realize... that there really isn't more, but you know what? That's ok because...Book 2 is out in 2 months! And, that is doable. Waiting a year? Shoot me now. 2 months? Doable. Especially since she has Dream wars out. Which if you haven't read that, you must buy it. There are two of three books of that out!

When I first found out Leia's new book was about angels and demons, I was a smidge uncertain. It is usually such a crowded genre without many variations. I don't even know why I worried-even slightly. (Forgive me Leia!) It was truly amazing, as is EVERYTHING she does. And honestly, every single book she does is better than her last. Fallen Academy: Year One seriously takes the cake. I neglected absolutely everything I was supposed to be doing to read this all in one sitting because I could. not. put. it. down. SO creative, SO interesting and such a great storyline with a twist on the genre. It is unlike anything I have read before. I love the main character Brielle, she is snarky, brazen and all around awesome. Lincoln is a grade A jerk but I love him anyway! Do not hesitate to read this! Hit 'One Click', do it! You won't be sorry.

I love Sci-Fi and the Halo series of books are some of my favorites. I purchased the Kindle version, the paperback version and the Audible version of this book. I have read or listened to it multiple times. For me it never gets old.I like this book a lot but there are several things that bother me. The audio book and the Kindle version do not agree word for word. It is like the Audible version has been corrected and updated while the Kindle version has not. Words, sentences and paragraphs have been added in the Audible version while the Kindle version is incorrect.The other item that bothered me is the weapons used in the book by the humans and the effect they had on what was shot. The Master Chief use a shotgun a lot and the Kindle book said it was an 8 gauge shotgun and it was a 12 gauge. Parts of the Audible version were corrected while the Kindle book is still incorrect regarding the gage of the shotgun. In addition the book always talked about the assault rifle blowing large holes through the aliens that were shot. High velocity assault weapons and 7.62 bullets don't do that. They pass though the body. I also wondered how many magazines the master chief could carry. He must of used many thousands of rounds of ammo.Don't get me wrong but I still like the story. It is just that being a shooter I could not relate to incorrect information regarding the weapons. I like the book and I rated it 4 stars. It would have been 5 stars if the storyline moved faster and the above mentioned items were correct.I don't play the game but the story line, of the book, was entertaining for me and I liked it. Like I said, I have read and listened to the book multiple times.

HALO: THE FLOOD is an adaptation of HALO: COMBAT EVOLVED or the first Halo game. It's interesting that a game which consists primarily about Master Chief blowing up hundreds of Grunts, Elites, and Jackals is expanded into a military science fiction novel I really enjoyed. William C. Dietz is a favorite science fiction novelist of mine and I absolutely loved his work on Starcraft: Heaven's Devils.The premise of the book is pretty much the one of the games. Master Chief and the crew of the Pillar of Autumn are marooned on an ancient alien space station. The station proves to be a massive superweapon capable of wiping out all life in the galaxy. There's greater threats than the Covenant, the evil religious sect that wishes to destroy humanity, though and stopping them may require the weapon to be used.William Deitz adds multiple interesting new plots like an ODST plot to steal a Covenant starship, the first in the war, but potentially endangers all of humanity by carrying a Flood spore to Earth. There's also the stories of a human traitor, a poor Grunt who just wants to survive, and an Elite determined to avenge himself on the Master Chief despite being just another enemy to him.I don't quite like this book as much as the Eric Nylund novels in the trilogy but it's still damned entertaining and we also get some insights into how the "regular" people reacted to the events of Halo. There's some really tragic moments like the death of Captain Keyes, the fruitlessness of certain characters' attempts to survive, and even the Covenant get humanized. We also get some insight into the awesomeness of Sergeant Johnson, one of my all time favorite Halo characters.9/10

Lot's of reviewers negatively compare Halo: The Flood with the first novel Halo: The Fall of Reach. I understand why, but I don't think the negative criticism is entirely fair. Yes, this novel is very, VERY action oriented and a lot of the Master Chiefs chapters have dialogue ripped directly from the game, but for me this is a minor issue. I give this 4 stars because there is more to The Flood than shooting and in-game dialogue. This book really shines when focuses on the UNSC and ODST marines perspectives and more so when the book gives you the point of view from several members of the covenant and even the flood --William C. Dietz does an excellent job in this area. IT takes the story telling in a whole new direction and doesn't just give you the view from Master Chiefs visor. I for one enjoyed this story. Of course the parts with the Chief in it are fun, but the constant and fast action makes it hard to focus on the Chiefs character itself. My favorite is when the narration is from the perspectives of the other characters. It's very refreshing and fills in the gaps of the games story that weren't included. 4 stars.

Huge fan of sci-fi and the Halo franchise. I read this based on the review that said the book describes events taking place that didn't involve the Chief in Halo: CE. That was true for about the first half of the book. There were some exciting large-scale battles between the UNSC marines and the Covenant, but the majority of the fighting done by the Chief was largely a recap of the FPS. If I had a dollar for every grenade Dietz described or every time I read the Chief spun and retreated, I'd make my truck payment for the month. The details of the battle were beyond overdone. I ended up skipping every paragraph that started off with a statement about a grenade, assault rifle, or finding more enemies. I do have to give Dietz credit for coming up with so many ways to describe shooting a rifle, throwing a grenade, or any other action you'd otherwise take for granted pulling the trigger on your Xbox controller.I enjoyed the look into how the Covenant military operates. There were brief narratives about how their ships were designed. The story of Yayap broke my general understanding that grunts were stupid pawns. He was actually quite cunning, but knew his place given to him by the elites.Dietz has a poor reputation from my perspective in sci-fi novels. I also read Mass Effect novels. The Mass Effect novel Dietz authored was torn apart on reviews for bad writing and a story inconsistent with the franchise (a one-starred book).I don't regret buying or reading it, but I also don't regret skipping the redundant FPS battles.

But they don't look like printed underlines, they look like pencil.I am positive this book can and will work well for its target audience. When I was a younger man, I am sure I would have taken to it like a duck to water or like fire to gasoline. Everything he says here will work if you apply it.Just remember that everything has a cost. Every success (and every failure) has a price. Nothing comes for free.In my own view of life, business success and work are important AS A MEANS TO SOMETHING MORE IN LIFE. In my case, I believe first and foremost in family. I hear any number of executives talk about this as they are on their third marriage and fathering their own grandkids. Remember this kind of talk is cheap. Living real life is hard. What's that old saying? "You pays your money and you takes your chances." There is a lot of benefit that comes from having succeeded and getting the space and time that comes from financial success. But it is space and time to do something meaningful and worthwhile. Business success as an END in life is a poor thing. Money as an end is empty.All your work will be superseded. All the homes you sell will be sold again (or torn down). Your office (or cubicle) will be filled by others. You will be replaced and forgotten by co-workers. But not by your spouse and kids (and grandkids).So, work hard. Be focused. Have a furious purpose. I loved this book. I wasn’t surprised, however, since I had read two other books by Adam Rutherford - “A Brief History of Everyone Who Ever Lived” and “Creation” and had loved those as well. In this book, Rutherford makes the case that humans are animals and that many of the ways we behave is also seen in the animal world. Rutherford writes with a conversational tone and he makes the science completely accessible. Humanimals is well written and with the same sense of humor that Rutherford displayed in his other books. And again, the footnotes are worth reading.Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of this book via Netgalley for review purposes.

You don’t need a college degree in science to understand the informationDislike:- Not so much a dislike, but more of a warning- there’s chapters on sexual activity ( because how else are new animals and humans created) It goes in depth into various sexual activities, mating practices, and genital touching. So heads up, if you end up listening as an audiobook without headphones.Wish that: —Overall, a well written, comprehensive book about the step by step process of evolution. Written in an interesting easily accessible manner. I definitely recommend if you’re interested in the topic!

Evolutionary history and evolutionary biology are fascinating subjects, and in his latest book, Humanimal, author Adam Rutherford takes a look at what sets humans apart from the rest of the animal kingdom, and asks if we are truly as unique as we have been led to believe. Broadly speaking he looks at a variety of behaviours that are often regarded as uniquely human , ranging from speech and communication , to art and the use of tools and even sex for pleasure rather than procreation and finds examples from around the globe that show similar behaviours in animal species that will surprise you. It is fascinating to read about species of birds in Australia who have learned to use fire as a tool to flush out prey, or dolphins who use sea sponges on their snouts as protection when hunting. Rutherford clearly and simply breaks down how the genetic similarities and differences between humans and other animals may be less than many would expect, but they are enough to make us vastly different.Although the subject of the book is vast and complex, Rutherford does a wonderful job in breaking it down, and making it not just accessible but also fascinating to the lay reader with no background in the topic.“We transmit information,” writes the author, “not just via DNA down the generations, but in every direction, to people with whom we have no immediate biological ties. We log our knowledge and experience, and share them. This book is straight forward and has helped me realize that my feelings towards my wife's infidelity are not only normal, but are something that I can overcome. I was absolutely shocked how the author hit the nail on the head with real world examples of exactly how i feel. I'm not done with the book yet but so far I have not been able to put it down. My wife and I are working on making our marriage work so I am having her read this book with me each night so she can understand my emotions and help herself deal with what lead her to cheat in the first place. This book is perfect- it helps both the hurt partner and the unfaithful partner understand their actions, their reactions to themselves and each other, and how to cope with ending or continuing your marriage.I was hesitant to purchase this because just reading the title stings a little. It's a terrible reminder of something that should never happen between two loving people. I feel like it takes a bold person to purchase a book like this because it seems so much easier to not think about the things that hurt us. I'm just a regular guy, not endorsed by the publisher or amazon, but I can tell you that the best thing you could do for yourself or your marriage is to add this book to your amazon cart and start healing the right way. Realize that your feelings are common and you're not crazy, irrational, or undesireable as you might think.What do you have to lose? The book was under ten dollars, cheap in regards to what I believe it's worth. Be strong enough to seek guidance because you are not alone. Good luck.

Look, most cheaters are inherently selfish. That's the main reason they cheat, for most of them. This book would fool you into believing you can overcome your partner's limitations in this area and have a happy marriage. I say bull! My husband showed me he was selfish before he cheated, I just didn't pay attention. That's my own nieve stupidity. I now know what is behind the saying once a cheater always a cheater, it's the fact that selfish people don't magically change and start behaving altruistically. This book tries to hold YOU the betrayed person partly responsible for your partner's selfish behavior. I disagree with that and it's why I can't give it a full recommendation. The author says, "Are you overreacting to the infidelity?" No way! You cannot overreact to a nuclear bomb that just obliterated your life!The book does do a good job of showing you that you're not alone in your pain, and might be able to explain to your partner why you hurt so bad. But in the end, your partner likely cares more about the fact they are facing consequences rather than the reality that they hurt you. If they cared about hurting you, they wouldn't have cheated in the first place. If your partner has cheated once and you want to work it out, get the book. If they have cheated more than one you probably need to leave. Cheating is abuse. She doesn't come right out and say that but she should. She beats around the bush at it. The most important thing is your own sanity and mental health. Take care of yourself, even if that means leaving.

This is such a great book . It has such detailed information and insight to understanding the whole of the affair. The author gives such a good breakdown for both sides and it has given me validation and clarity to wheat I have been experiencing through the separation. I love how the author gives examples through real client stories and also through research studies and scientific evidence. I'm still very hurt to what the affair has caused in my life and my children's life , but as I read through this book I have hope that I can A) move on and be okay or B) heave the right tools and guidance to rebuild my marriage if my husband is willing to also receive help, reconnect and recommit. I wouldn't hesitate to buy it again or for someone who is going through this. It's an outstanding book and easy to understand . If your longing to discover the "why's " and " what ifs " this is a great book to read.

This book has helped me & my marriage counselor gave it rave reviews & said it is one of the best books on the market right now. However, I dont like how unbiased it is. While it makes me understand my husbands feelings & what he did more it also made me feel that the wrongdoer didnt do anything 'wrong' in their section. I skimmed through the wrongdoer sections & didnt absolutely love what it said.

This book is good for couples who are considering working things out. There are "success indicators" that help the wounded partner feel a little safer in knowing what to look for to feel more assured the behavior won't re-occur. There are activities for both partners to go over together to help them explore the "whys" behind the infidelity to fix underlying issues and build a stronger relationship. There's a chapter on how to reunite physically after some healing has taken place.

My wife got the book first and I felt it necessary to read also. Very Informative as the unfaithful person I found this book causing me to look back at my entire life and what made me tick. Where my flaws lie and what I need to correct to either make my current relationship work or if that’s not to be how can I not make the same mistakes in future relationships

The book is not a bashing book but allows (if you are open) each side to see the perspective both partners. It does a good job detailing information and insight to understanding the whole of the affair. My mind was made up to walk away and file for divorce, my husband finally read this book and for the first time in 4 months changed his behavior and began having real conversations about the affair. We are not out of the woods and I'm not sure what will happen but we can at least have conversations that may lead to repairing the marriage. I highly recommend this book for many reasons.

I was waiting until the last book to leave a comment but I need to do this. First off Me is “Mi” in patwa it was killing me reading it like that. Secondly these close calls of everyone almost seeing Yay and Ken or Sean and Jazz was killing me. I’m screening look over there lmao. Sigh JT and Dimples hmm she has a king but still wants what the heart wants. I’m interested to see what happens. I was always routing for Ken and Jazz but I also love her and Sean.

I truly wish I could give this book 10 stars because it definitely deserves it. I have followed this series from the beginning and each installment just gets better and freaking better. I ill admit, I used to be a huge fan of Jazz and Ken, their love was so powerful and you could jus feel it as you read the book and everyone wanted a "forever type of love" in their life. Since the accident, I must admit, I do not like the man Ken has become, while, I know its not his fault, I still can't feel sorry for him.... Sean has grown on me so much since I know more of his background, and in a way he has so may of the old Ken's characteristics in him... Maybe that's why Jazz and I fell for him so quickly.. lol I love the new characters storylines, Dimples & Rah and can't wait to see how it all plays out... Aleta, you really need to get this series on television, because baby it is HOTTTT!!!! I just can't get enough...

When I started reading this series I knew it was going to be good and with each installment it only gets better. I thought I knew who I was rooting for between Ken and Sean but now I'm not sure and what you think is going to happen totally goes left but in an amazing way. I love how the author chose to close out Dena's character, I didn't see that coming at all but it leads the readers into a new triangle that may prove to be deadly for one or more of the characters. Again the story is so well written I don't know who to choose JT or Rah but I'm going to love reading more about them. If you haven't begun reading this series yet you're doing yourself an injustice,Aleta Williams KILLED it with this book I can't wait for the next one.

Please hurry up with the next installment. I am a fan hooked on being Salty. There is only one other writer in which each installment of the series just keep getting better like your Salty series. I must say this last installment has really left me saltier than ever but in a good way. I do not wish to give the book/plot away in case someone else is reading and haven`t finished. Okay, Let Me Start By Saying That I've Been a FAN Of This Series Since The Beginning and I've ALWAYS Fought For Ken & Jazz, until NOW! I understand the circumstances, but something in me wants Jazz and Sean together, it just WORKS! I certainly HOPE her running off and doing whatever she did didn't cause what I think it did, I don't think Sean could forgive it. Yay needs to get GONE permanently, I hope this is THE END for her. I JUST CANT TAKE IT! The drama is SOOOO JUICY! I have never read from an authoress that is as detailed as Ms.Aleta! She has had me since her first book! I promise you if you start this series it will have you yearning for more! Ken had become an ass and Yay Yay needs to go! Poor JAZ she just can't escapee the drama!
