I was looking for a book to help my daughter better understand her ADHD diagnosis and was also (per her therapist) trying to give her an outlet for her thoughts in the form of a journal-- this book did it all. My daughter is 8 years old and was diagnosed with ADHD when she was 5/6. After a number of various efforts to mitigate her symptoms, I started her on medication in 2014-- and promptly found relief for my struggling, bright little girl. I only recently put a name to the diagnosis for her-- before now I had described it as "turbo brain"-- but she is in a good place to understand and this book has helped put it all in perspective for her-- on her level. The book is in the format of a journal as told by 11-yr old Toby, with space for your own kid's thoughts and feelings. Also there are great little check lists to help guide the thought process and encourage your child to put his/her own thoughts down. My daughter refers back to that book all the time-- she not longer fights me taking her medication because she understands why she is taking it, she looks for a pillow now when she gets frustrated, she is not freaked out by her eye tick, but just shrugs and says- "eh, I have ADHD, sometimes ticks are a part of that." Toby was able to show her she is not odd or alone in the feelings and frustrations of trying to get through her daily routines and struggles. I highly recommend this book to any kid and his/her parent who are trying to find a way to work through the myriad, baffling, strangely magical quirks that make up our beautiful children with this diagnosis. Thank you, Tobias Stumpf and family.

Bought this book for our 11 year old son who has been really coming to terms with his ADHD and anxiety issues. He really enjoyed this book and actually used it to write down his thoughts and responses. As a parent, that is what I liked most. It was just a book to read but a literal journal to help them think more about who he is and why he is great. I'm not allowed to read his responses, and it hasn't gotten rid of any of our "issues" but it did help with making him feel like he isn't the only one out there.

My son loved this book and really connected with the author. It helped him to be more understanding of things out of his control, to be easier on himself and to develop strategies to help himself with things he knows he will struggle with. For example, after reading this book he suggested on his own that he should spend an hour outside playing after school and before homework. It transformed homework time from a struggle to a simple half hour. He needed the time to decompress. At the end of the day we really want him to learn how to manage and cope with his diagnosis, and this book has helped tremendously.

Thank you so much for writing this book. My 10 year old son was formally diagnosed last week and it has been emotional for al of us. I bought a few books for me and this one caught my attention. I am so glad I ordered it. After reading it myself, I handed it over to my son. His eyes immediately lit up and he started laughing and saying he loved it already (before reading it). I laid with him while he read the first chapter and he was smiling ear to ear. I went downstairs to take care of some things and he came and found me and asked if we could talk. He wanted to go back through all the chapters together and talk about his own experiences and ask questions. This book is a gift. Thank you.

This is an excellent resource for parents with a newly diagnosed ADHD child. It is a quick read for the parent, about 30 minutes, in order to determine if you want your child to be exposed to the information. I did. After reading, I felt so much less alone. ADHD can isolate, it's not something that we talk about with others because of not wanting our children judged. Because of this book, the world opens up a bit, and we find others who have the same struggles and realize that we are not alone. Thank you for this wonderful book. It is a lifesaver for me and will hopefully help my child to maintain confidence and self-esteem through the turbulent middle school years.

I just finished reading the book, Journal of an ADHD Kid and I found it facinating and entertaining. Learning about ADHD from the perspective of a middle school young man that has it, made the reading very authentic. Before reading the book I knew very little about ADHD, only that young people were often diagnosed with it and treated with medication. I think this book would be especially valuable for other young people with ADHD that have the same struggles that Tobias has experienced. Knowing that there are many others, just like Tobias, that have same frustrating issues with school, family and life in general, would help. The strategies Tobias has developed to deal with his ADHD will hopefully help others to manage their lives too.Parents and teachers will benefit from this book, it gives you a perspective of ADHD that you won't find in text books or when you Google it. The words Tobias writes come come from the heart and from his real-life experiences.I am a member of the same community in central Minnesota as Tobias. He has been a great customer of mine at the Farmers Market and I coached his traveling basketball team two years ago. He is a very intelligent, compassionate young man.Tobias was very brave to write this book. He realizes he may be opening himself to teasing or possibly bullying; but he wants to tell his story to help others. I think this book will accomplish just that. What a kid!

I read it with my 8 year old son who just got diagnosed with ADHD-Hyperactive. It helped both of us understand the disability a little more and help reassure my son that he's not the only one with this disability and that there's nothing to be ashamed of. The questions at the end of each chapter were helpful as well, even though he was very reluctant to answer them at first.

My daughter wants me to read this book to her every night - she could do it herself but she really loves it when I read it to her. I have to admit that every chapter we read, I'm amazed how accurate it is to her. It really helps for both of us to understand that all these behaviors she displays have a lot to do with her wiring and not her just trying to be difficult.

I have been a fan of the works of Matthew Kelly since I first read one of his books late in 2015. Since that time, I have read a book by him a total of 18 times. I have been bouncing around his different titles randomly pickling what to read next. This book is his most recent publication, at the time of writing this review. This book has a densely packed 15 chapters:1. Life Is A Puzzle2. Your Happiness Project3. The False Promises And Lies Of This World4. I've Been Lying To Myself5. So Many Lies About Christianity6. The Biggest Lie7. Prove It!8. One Beautiful Truth9. The World Needs Changing10. It's Been Done Before11. History Is Presenting Christianity With A New Opportunity12. Everyday Miracles13. Live An Intriguing Life14. Our Dirty Little Secret15. Now Is Your Time! After the last book I reviewed by Matthew Kelly a reader reached out to me and asked if Kelly was just a Catholic version of Max Lucado. I thought about that for a while, when I was involved with non-denomination campus ministries I read a lot of Lucado. Eventually I stopped because it all felt the same. It came to feel like Lucado just continued to present variations on a theme without having much real new content. And I feel the same way about Mark Batterson. But with Matthew Kelly I have not felt that at all yet. Yes Kelly writes with a great deal of passion, and he does sometimes use the same illustrations. And his catch phrase: 'Becoming the best version of yourself' appears often in his writings. But even with all of that with each new book by Kelly that I read I have a renewed interest in reading more of his works. Every time I finish one I go and pick one I have not read and add it to my to be read pile.In this book Kelly states:"Transforming people one at a time is at the heart of God's plan for the world. Itis also essential to developing dynamic marriages, loving families, vibrant Christian communities, thriving businesses and economies, and extraordinary schools and nations. If you get the man right (or the woman, of course), you get the world right.""The thing is, our deep yearning isn't for momentary pleasures; it is for lastinghappiness in a changing world. The world is always changing; we cannot control every situation. Situational happiness is easy. It is easy to be happy lying on an exotic tropical beach all day for a week. But so much of this happiness is dependent on the situation. What we are really hungry for is a happiness that is independent of the situation."Matthew also shares with us form his personal experience. He states:"Through my own quest for happiness, there are a few things Ihave learned: Happiness and pleasure are not the same thing. Getting what I want doesn't make me happy. Focusing on myself almost never leads to happiness. I am never happy when I pretend to be someone I am not. Too much of the happiness I experience is dependent on unsustainable circumstances or situations. The more I help others in their quest for lasting happiness, the happier I seem to be. Lying never makes me happy. Happiness is always found by embracing the present moment. It is impossible to be grateful and unhappy at the same time. Anything that helps me become a-better-version-of-myself makes me happy, even if it is difficult or painful. Happiness is contagious."And he shows us that the way we find true happiness is by pursuing answers to four questions."Who am I?What am I here for? What matters most? What matters least?"He also shares with us that:"It is this fact-that we lie to ourselves-that is of particular importancehere. Humanity's ability to deceive itself knows no limits."Or"Whenever and wherever Christians have taken the idea that holiness is possible seriously, Christianity has thrived. Whenever and wherever the biggest lie in the history of Christianity has prevailed and everyday holiness has been set aside, Christianity has fumbled along clumsily with limited impact or become stagnant.""I don't like alarm clocks. Just the name disturbs me. Who wants to start the day alarmed? But when you check into a hotel, they often ask you if you would like a wakeup call. I like that. We all need a wakeup call from time to time. I needed one last year. Maybe you need one right now. It is just so easy to fall into the mode of sleepwalking through life."I hope that those few quotes will help you appreciate some of the message that is in this wonderful book. Of all the books I have read by Kelly this is the best so far. I highly recommend it.

I am involved in Christian and Catholic apologetics. I write and read a lot. Matthew Kelly's The Biggest Lie in the History of Christianity" was given out to parishioners at the two parishes our family attends. The book is lauded as a great tool of evangelism. I read it. But I found it very shallow and insipid in its thinking. Catholics can do much better than read this if they want to be better prepared to engage the culture, witness for Christ, and better their lives.Consider these few points.(1) The Biggest Lie... unlike most Catholic texts this book has no citations, outside references, footnotes, nor is there a bibliography. Ex. He quotes Keats, but no citation. Only one Scripture is cited: 1 Thes. 4:3. Thus, contrary to what I was told by a priest, there is no clear presentation of the Gospel in this book. But rather a feel-good, nearly post-modern version of the Gospel IS suggested. (See No. 3 below.)(2) In rebutting the historic lies about Christianity, The Biggest Lie... provides few if any facts that can be tracked down and checked out. But Kelly offers plenty of opinion. Ex. "#1 Jesus Didn't Exist" (p 22), Kelly provides not one piece of evidence that Jesus did exist. But he provides 7 claims that Christ didn't, and offers 6 of his own unsubstantiated opinions, demeaning his detractors by calling them "disingenuous" or liars. Matthew, name calling is not evidence.(3) If there's a practical theme to the book it's to create Holy Moments by being kind to others. This is where 1 Thes. 4:3 comes in, "...be holy." Good starting point, but Kelly interprets this, which by other names is a repeat of past secular social fads a.k.a. "random acts of kindness" and "pay it forward" which the secular culture practices to a great extent. Kelly seems to think such Holy Moments are unique to Christians and the world will sit up and take notice. He's wrong. He's also wrong the holiness is arrived at by being kind to others...although being kind is a good thing. Further, he provides no advice on how to use Holy Moments to confront cultural issues like abortion, sexualization, gender politics or the ever-present sex scandal in the Church. He ignores these issues totally. Thus, the book is very shallow.(4) He spends time talking about giving 100% of our lives to Christ, but the thinking here is nothing more than a bottle of bromides. Platitudes with no practical interpretation. EX: If I give my 100% to Christ how do I have anything left for my wife, job, or kids? Now there's a clear answer to that, in that we are Christ in our interaction with our wife, job and kids...but Kelly doesn't say that. He just piles on the adages.(5) On pages 94-95 he writes of the power that ONE individual has to change the world and gives as an example: "Had another thousand or ten thousand joined" the resistance against Hitler "they would have changed the course of history." Think about that logic. ONE person can change Hitler's attack on humanity, but 1,000 or 10,000 more are needed. What happened to the "one person" business? In claiming this over simplification Kelly appears ignorant of the tens of MILLIONS that died to stop Hitler and the Axis powers over a period of years. The logic is over simplified, generalized, and baffling.(6) On pages 109-112 Kelly gives one-line bios to over 30 of the greatest achieving people to grace humanity, from Bill Gates to Grandma Moses, listing the great things they did and the age when they did them...and he points out that these special people were "called of God". Then he follows this up by reminding the reader (in big type) "you and I—are capable of incredible things." Why does he say we don't do such things? He does not remind the reader that he said that the former were called of God, or that they worked hard all their lives and prepared for their great opportunities. No, he says it's because we're busy with the "hustle and bustle of life" as if the famous folks weren't busy with such things. "Or we think we are not among the special people and we are not capable of great things." Duh! Well, most of us are not "called of God" in a special way like Joan of Arc, nor are we as talented or as disciplined as Jack Nicklaus, or driven like Paul McCartney for fame, etc. But never mind that logic. Kelly says, "We are wrong. We are capable of great things." And then by the force of his words he reminds us that Holy Moments (Random Acts of Kindness) are equivalent to the works of Mozart and Michelangelo. One thing for sure, Matthew Kelly will never be lauded for his literature or remembered for his sharp mind.(7) In many places the proofs he provides to support his opinion are simply restatements of his position with more emphatic words. On pages 59-60 he goes on a rant about the need of Christian unity to save the Church and the world. He never gives a tactical or strategic plan for bringing about such unity other than his Holy Moments motif. And then to prove his point he writes: "And hear me when I say this: The future of Christianity around the world depends on this unity. It's no longer just a nice idea...." etc. Thus, in numerous places Kelly's best evidence in support of his opinion is the sight of his own words in print... or the sound of his voice on his videos. What more do we need? There are a number of other logical problems with this book. In short, if Catholics read this they will learn that simply repeating ideological chants ("But Matthew Kelly said...") and paying it forward with random acts of kindness will unite the church, dispense with evil, and change the culture. In the meantime, it would be great if Kelly would steer clear of the bromides and write a practical book on confronting evil.

We all struggle with being the best version of our selves, we allow ourselves to put off what we should be doing, this book give some direction on how to get started.

I started reading this, then put it down when life got busy. I was hit with a minor illness that really had me feeling low. Looking for something to read, I grabbed this book again. I was just coming into the chapter of Transformation and I was hit....this is exactly what I need. I need to open myself to God and find out why I am here, and what is my purpose. I am so ready to make more Holy Moments! I am inspired!

It was an easy read and made you think about really being catholic. I have been catholic all my life but this re-energized me about my faith

Wow, what a simple but necessary solution to the problems of our time which is actually timeless. Learn how live the life you were meant to live as only each of us can do!

Extremely simple concept, don't complicate it. Jesus used a child as the model for us. Quick and easy to read.

MaybeI like the approach but like most Christians that write as an expert the topic of evil being involved is taboo. Jesus recognizes Satan in the desert and several ties when mentioning fires of hell. So you may bring the real Christians around but embedded evil will continue to block as much as they can. Been attending church for 75 plus years and am still trying to identify what a sin is other than those listed in the 10 commandments. Rest are “ God said to ? Or man decided another rule would bring them around. So essentially he is right we are more holy than organized religion would have us believe. I am tired of hearing how sinful we are as the writer 9 implies. Good not great show.
