Grace for the Moment is a great devotional book for kids 6-10 years old. The daily devotionals are broken up to include a bible verse to reflect on, a few short paragraphs about what the verse means and relates it easily for a kid to understand, and finishes with a "Growing in Grace" paragraph that guides a kid to use the verse with an application to their life. This is definitely not a quick devotional you can mark off a checklist for kids - this is a more in depth look at verses for kids and geared towards kids who are getting more mentally mature. If your kid can't quite sit still through a chapter in a short chapter book, you may want to hold off introducing this until they're a little older.The book breaks down bible verses into digestible pieces for kids to take in. I really enjoyed the application portions of each devotional. Instead of simply telling kids to just "think about this or that" or "draw this picture and play a game with mom and dad", this book encourages kids to pray to God for themselves and others, challenges them to look up more than just the single verse noted in the devotional, and even encourages them to journal their thoughts for the week. As an example, for the devotional regarding Psalm 34:17 ("The Lord hears good people when they cry out to him. He saves them from all their troubles."), the "Growing in Grace" challenge is to keep a journal for a week and write down all the ways Jesus says "I love you" (From the sunrise painted for you, to the air you breathe, to the stars in the sky," and so forth). Another devotional (Matthew 22:37 - "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind") challenged my kids to not only think about themselves (how do you want people to describe you), then what they thought about Jesus (think of words that you think describe Jesus). From there, it then challenged my kids to try to live so that people will say the same words them as they said about Jesus. There are 365 days of teachable moments in this bookFor kids who are already starting to read the bible themselves, the book ends with two reading plans - one is a 30 day plan about Jesus, the second is a 90 day plan into the bible. Overall, our family found this book to be incredibly helpful and uplifting, and is a good companion for kids who are beginning to deepen their faith.

This has been a great devotional to read with my five year old. The only down side is there are no pictures. I would like to see some pictures in the book to keep a young child more interested. Overall the content of the book is spot on and not to long to bore a child. Love this daily devotional for a five year old!

My kids and I LOVE this devotional! In fact, my kids make sure we do not miss a day and it is something they look forward to doing every night together. Because I bought the book during the course of the year and do not have my children with me every night, I started at the beginning of the book and are going through it day by day ignoring the dates on the pages. I really like how Max Lucado pairs a bible verse with real life situations looking at things from a child's perspective and making it something they can understand. It is beautifully written that it will even make an adult think. This book has also opened up some great conversations regarding faith, life and lessons learned between my children (ages 10 and 7) and myself that may not have otherwise happened. Do not hesitate to purchase this book, you will be glad that you did!

Great book for short, to-the-point devotions for the whole family. Our kids, ages 8 and 11, are able to grasp the concepts quickly and easily. I love the included ribbon bookmark to help keep track of where you are each day! Each page offers a Bible passage, a paragraph or two explaining the scripture in real-world examples and words, then a few discussion questions. I do wish the devotions were just a little bit more in-depth, since sometimes it feels like the devotion is over before the kids have even had a chance to grasp what it's about. But the discussions are thoughtful and appropriate for kids, and it has inspired some GREAT discussions over the dinner table! Serves as a perfect jumping-off point for daily conversations about Biblical principles. Would recommend this as a great daily devotional book for a busy family.

I am quite impressed with this devotional. I read it with my daughter each morning. The little Growing in Grace section at the end gives kids great little ways to apply what they learn. The readings are short & very applicable for kids. I like that Max Lucado is biblically right on and has a way of breaking things down to a kid's level without ever talking down to them. If you are looking for a good devotional for your grade school kids, this is an excellent choice. It often speaks to me as well. But that is how God's truth works!

This is a fantastic devotion book for the family. It now sits on our dining room table and the kids ask to read it at almost every meal. Each page is a devotion for a calendar day in the year. They are short and concise, which is great for kids (and others...lets me honest here). The last paragraph also has a practical application for each day, which is sometimes a bit intensive for our young family but good nonetheless.Our oldest child is only 3 years old, and these devotions are meant for older kids, but it is not hard to adjust the wording or make it a bit more relevant to a 3 year old's life. We'll throw in examples from the day or her bother's name when it talks about being called to forgive (shameless parenting plug).The topics of each devotion are not just the simple dealings, but get into real life, and sometimes difficult, questions for kids to wrestle with. I would guess that we will be using this devotion book for years and years to come. I highly recommend it for families, especially to develop good meal conversation.

My 16 month old wants to read this several times a day and has for the last few months. The flaps are really thick and she can't rip them off like she can on other lift-a-flap books.

these flip board books are great fun, entertaining and enjoyable. Perfect book for 10 months plus. Hope this helps

My son loves the lift-a-flap books by Cottage Door Press. I started reading them to him soon after he was born. At about 6-7 months he started to lift-the-flaps himself. These were the first flap books he could lift because the flaps are thicker and shaped for easy grabbing by little hands. The flaps are also thick and sturdy to withstand biting, spit, and tearing. We have read them so many times, but they surprisingly still look new. My son is now a busy 11 month old, so being able to play with the flaps keeps him engaged so I can actually read to him during this stage. Plus the stories are cute.

My 15 month old son LOVES this book. We keep it in our diaperbag and it is great at keeping him busy when we are out. He loves opening the tabs. Great value.

Wow I am shocked at how well this is rated. There is so much fan fiction that is better written. The writing is trite and cliched. The author needs new words, I lost count how many times the word "badass" and "hottie" were used. Even the plot manages to be so painfully predictable.Her attempt at writing a "badass" female character is rather insulting. Not only is the Bri a special Celestial (the rarest of the fallen), she's touched by all four arch angels, and Lucifer, and there's a prophecy about her and she has a special weapon that talks to her that that is so rare it's possibly the only one on earth. Yet she acts like a petulant tween, acting out to show she's "badass".The romance (and this is what the book attempts to hinge on) is terrible. I've read many stories of two characters that are opposites become attracted to each other. This one doesn't work. It tells and doesn't show. The main characters inner monologue basically goes from oh he's such a dick and I hate him, to oh he's so hot why do I feel this? Oh, I feel bad about his tragic past (because of course he has one) To oh I'm so in love with him.Cliches are abound. It's bad when you can finish the author's sentences before you read them. Also, Here's an example of the writing: "Lincoln Grey lit a fire within me. I wasn't sure if it was a good one or a bad one, but I was engulfed in the heat nonetheless."I rarely write reviews, but I'm just mind boggled that this was at the top of Amazons best sellers when I bought this book. I guess the only thing going for it is that it's hard to put the book down, like watching a train crash and burn.

OMG Leia Stone has done it again!!! I am so glad I ordered this book as it is seriously freaking fantastic! Everything she writes is... but WOW! Set in Los Angeles (one no longer like we know it) you have an epic battle of good vs. evil and the best cast of characters ever!!!!Brielle will steal your heart and you will want to be a part of her team! Shea is the most epic BFF ever. Lincoln will grow on you and everyone else is just as good.Tons of excitement, suspense as to wtf is going on and really just an epic read!! It has it all people... Angels, demons, shifters, mages, and the list goes on... everything you could want in a book! Read it! I promise you will not be disappointed... but you will be sad year 2 isn’t out yet! LOL

Strong independent female lead plus a gripping story of love, sacrifice, and loyalty. A must read if there has ever been one.

So, I'm a die hard Leia Stone fan. I've read every one of her books. And, I thought Dream Wars was her best work.Until I read Fallen Academy.Wow... So, I'd put Fallen Academy tied with Dream Wars. It was so good. This is Brielle's first year and she's sent to the school she's not anticipating. And, we get to learn all about her and her awesome guardians, fun best friend and her trusty sidekick, Sera. Ummm, Sera is me. She says stuff that I'd totally say and it's a fun time listening to her blade. No for real, Sera is her blade.*sighs* I can see you don't believe me on her blade name. You know what this means?You'll need to read the book. It's so good. It's great paced, good world building, great angst between her and her other half. It fun to read and never a dull moment. You'll open the first page and before you know it... you're readingTo be continued...And you'll be frantically screaming inside that surely it's a joke, that's there's more and you realize... that there really isn't more, but you know what? That's ok because...Book 2 is out in 2 months! And, that is doable. Waiting a year? Shoot me now. 2 months? Doable. Especially since she has Dream wars out. Which if you haven't read that, you must buy it. There are two of three books of that out!

When I first found out Leia's new book was about angels and demons, I was a smidge uncertain. It is usually such a crowded genre without many variations. I don't even know why I worried-even slightly. (Forgive me Leia!) It was truly amazing, as is EVERYTHING she does. And honestly, every single book she does is better than her last. Fallen Academy: Year One seriously takes the cake. I neglected absolutely everything I was supposed to be doing to read this all in one sitting because I could. not. put. it. down. SO creative, SO interesting and such a great storyline with a twist on the genre. It is unlike anything I have read before. I love the main character Brielle, she is snarky, brazen and all around awesome. Lincoln is a grade A jerk but I love him anyway! Do not hesitate to read this! Hit 'One Click', do it! You won't be sorry.

I love Sci-Fi and the Halo series of books are some of my favorites. I purchased the Kindle version, the paperback version and the Audible version of this book. I have read or listened to it multiple times. For me it never gets old.I like this book a lot but there are several things that bother me. The audio book and the Kindle version do not agree word for word. It is like the Audible version has been corrected and updated while the Kindle version has not. Words, sentences and paragraphs have been added in the Audible version while the Kindle version is incorrect.The other item that bothered me is the weapons used in the book by the humans and the effect they had on what was shot. The Master Chief use a shotgun a lot and the Kindle book said it was an 8 gauge shotgun and it was a 12 gauge. Parts of the Audible version were corrected while the Kindle book is still incorrect regarding the gage of the shotgun. In addition the book always talked about the assault rifle blowing large holes through the aliens that were shot. High velocity assault weapons and 7.62 bullets don't do that. They pass though the body. I also wondered how many magazines the master chief could carry. He must of used many thousands of rounds of ammo.Don't get me wrong but I still like the story. It is just that being a shooter I could not relate to incorrect information regarding the weapons. I like the book and I rated it 4 stars. It would have been 5 stars if the storyline moved faster and the above mentioned items were correct.I don't play the game but the story line, of the book, was entertaining for me and I liked it. Like I said, I have read and listened to the book multiple times.

HALO: THE FLOOD is an adaptation of HALO: COMBAT EVOLVED or the first Halo game. It's interesting that a game which consists primarily about Master Chief blowing up hundreds of Grunts, Elites, and Jackals is expanded into a military science fiction novel I really enjoyed. William C. Dietz is a favorite science fiction novelist of mine and I absolutely loved his work on Starcraft: Heaven's Devils.The premise of the book is pretty much the one of the games. Master Chief and the crew of the Pillar of Autumn are marooned on an ancient alien space station. The station proves to be a massive superweapon capable of wiping out all life in the galaxy. There's greater threats than the Covenant, the evil religious sect that wishes to destroy humanity, though and stopping them may require the weapon to be used.William Deitz adds multiple interesting new plots like an ODST plot to steal a Covenant starship, the first in the war, but potentially endangers all of humanity by carrying a Flood spore to Earth. There's also the stories of a human traitor, a poor Grunt who just wants to survive, and an Elite determined to avenge himself on the Master Chief despite being just another enemy to him.I don't quite like this book as much as the Eric Nylund novels in the trilogy but it's still damned entertaining and we also get some insights into how the "regular" people reacted to the events of Halo. There's some really tragic moments like the death of Captain Keyes, the fruitlessness of certain characters' attempts to survive, and even the Covenant get humanized. We also get some insight into the awesomeness of Sergeant Johnson, one of my all time favorite Halo characters.9/10

Lot's of reviewers negatively compare Halo: The Flood with the first novel Halo: The Fall of Reach. I understand why, but I don't think the negative criticism is entirely fair. Yes, this novel is very, VERY action oriented and a lot of the Master Chiefs chapters have dialogue ripped directly from the game, but for me this is a minor issue. I give this 4 stars because there is more to The Flood than shooting and in-game dialogue. This book really shines when focuses on the UNSC and ODST marines perspectives and more so when the book gives you the point of view from several members of the covenant and even the flood --William C. Dietz does an excellent job in this area. IT takes the story telling in a whole new direction and doesn't just give you the view from Master Chiefs visor. I for one enjoyed this story. Of course the parts with the Chief in it are fun, but the constant and fast action makes it hard to focus on the Chiefs character itself. My favorite is when the narration is from the perspectives of the other characters. It's very refreshing and fills in the gaps of the games story that weren't included. 4 stars.

Huge fan of sci-fi and the Halo franchise. I read this based on the review that said the book describes events taking place that didn't involve the Chief in Halo: CE. That was true for about the first half of the book. There were some exciting large-scale battles between the UNSC marines and the Covenant, but the majority of the fighting done by the Chief was largely a recap of the FPS. If I had a dollar for every grenade Dietz described or every time I read the Chief spun and retreated, I'd make my truck payment for the month. The details of the battle were beyond overdone. I ended up skipping every paragraph that started off with a statement about a grenade, assault rifle, or finding more enemies. I do have to give Dietz credit for coming up with so many ways to describe shooting a rifle, throwing a grenade, or any other action you'd otherwise take for granted pulling the trigger on your Xbox controller.I enjoyed the look into how the Covenant military operates. There were brief narratives about how their ships were designed. The story of Yayap broke my general understanding that grunts were stupid pawns. He was actually quite cunning, but knew his place given to him by the elites.Dietz has a poor reputation from my perspective in sci-fi novels. I also read Mass Effect novels. The Mass Effect novel Dietz authored was torn apart on reviews for bad writing and a story inconsistent with the franchise (a one-starred book).I don't regret buying or reading it, but I also don't regret skipping the redundant FPS battles.
