My two girls, age 4 and 2, both love all of the barefoot books! It’s almost all we listen to in the car. Also, I am a music teacher and use this in my classroom with my little ones! We love the end where it goes sings hello in so many languages. Give my ESL kids a chance to shine and share “hello” in their language!

My grandson became "addicted" to Barefoot Books animations on YouTube, but our internet connection isn't the best (buffering.....), so I was very happy to find them here on Amazon included with the books. I ordered 4 of them. "Driving My Tractor", "Knick Knack Paddy Wack" and "The Animal Boogie". And this one. The previous 3 are wonderful, clear and easy to see, very colorful. This one has very little animation and the singing isn't as lively as in the other books. Grandson never requests this title. He LOVES the other 3.

Did not have the Cd, which is what I was most excited for. My girls love the song! Also a few pages were ripped. The only reason I'm giving it a 3 is because my children love and adore this book, will need to get a different copy.

My 2 1/2 year old loves this book and video - of course it's a catchy tune that everybody knows, but she likes the drawings and the movement in the video. I like that the "characters" are diverse and it is teaching my child about the rest of the world. We own this and the mulberry bush book, and will likely buy several more.

My son is obsessed with these books!

This is an amzing current day historical account given by Dr Counter on his childhood hero Matthew Henson's and Robert Peary's North Pole discovery and the legacy they left.

I'm glad Professor Colter researched and published his findings. This is once again lost history that needs to be told. The product arrived on time and in excellent condition.

I was stationed far north of the artic circle twice on remote sites. Sorry I did not have a camera ro ewcoed my stay. This was 50-60 years ago.

Not worth the effort - there are lots better books about the Arctic out there. Basically of interest to the people involved.

I am deeply saddened by the fact that there's only 5 reviews for this wonderful book (all editions). It recounts the wonderful story of Harvard Professor Allen Counter's attempts to both bring Henson & Peary's Greenland Inuit relatives to America and to bring some MUCH overdue recognition & respect to the man without whom Peary probably would never have made it to the pole, Matthew Alexander Henson. It does not go into great detail about P & H's polar journeys, because that is not what the book is about. If you want detailed accounts of the grueling realities of Polar Exploration, look elsewhere. But if you're interested in the grueling realities of a great African-American man who has been shamefully ignored, and extremely moving accounts of the huge difficulties of bringing a large group of Greenland Inuit to the United States to visit their ancestors' graves and meet relatives, this is a wonderful book.I repeatedly encounter (in the few places that books on Arctic Exploration even mention Henson) statements to the effect that he couldn't read, couldn't write, couldn't navigate, along with offhand declarations that his book, "A [African-American] Explorer at the North Pole*," was ghostwritten (generally the authors don't even bother to explain this claim, apparently leaving it as obvious that Henson --an African American man-- couldn't possibly write a book, let alone a good one). Drives me nuts. Counter presents evidence to the contrary as well as arguments that these claims are products of pernicious racism, but I sort of wished he'd gone farther. Perhaps he got too depressed...goodness knows I couldn't blame him. I would dearly loved to have read more quotes from Henson's letters, diaries, and other papers Counter...encountered....more precise ammo against those who insist that Henson was just a dumb "manservant," for he certainly was not. Perhaps I'll have to make my own pilgrimage to Henson's papers & see them for myself.The copy I have of this edition did have one serious problem, but it wasn't with the writing. While mine is signed by Dr Counter (which is very cool, tho not to me, alas), it also contains a printer's error which results in duplication of a chunk of the book & some unknown amount of print left out. It's a great book incomplete; I can't wait to see how enjoyable it is entire. I was particularly excited when I first got it, to see there were TWO big sections of photos, but it turned out to be the same section twice. Ah well. I've already ordered another.Edit: received & read the complete version of the book, & am even more thrilled with it than when I'd read only most of it. The part of the book that was missing in my first edition contained considerable material refuting the claims of those who insist that Peary & Henson didn't get to the Pole. Dr Counter presents excellent and considerable evidence, from several sources, which prove unequivocally that P & H's detractors are wrong. My absolute favorite bit is when he shows the considerable scholarship & research done on the claims of one of the main detractors, Dennis Rawlins, who claimed to have cracked a "code" of Peary's wherein he hid the fact that he didn't make it to the Pole. Rawlins "discovered" secret "equations," which were in actuality Peary's jotted recording of the serial numbers of his navigational watches.Counter also goes to some length to refute the oft-repeated claims that P&H couldn't have made the distances that they claimed, by (among other things) pointing out that runners of the Iditarod routinely clock up far higher daily distances, many without the incredible decades & lifetimes of experience & skill of Henson & the Eskimos Ootah, Egingwah, Ooqueah, & Seegloo.Counter also, bless him, attempts to stamp out the notion that Henson, after a lifetime at sea and of exploration, couldn't navigate his way out of a paper bag. Sadly, I suspect that most of those who cling to this notion will continue to do so, in spite of any data or proof to the contrary, for the same reason that it was widely claimed that Peary took Henson to the Pole in the first place or that Henson's book was ghostwritten; because he was an 'unreliable' & ignorant witness, because he could not possibly write...because, of course, Henson had dark skin. Because of pernicious racism which is immune to reason, facts, and evidence of all kinds. It cannot be untaught, I fear, it can only be outlived in the hope that further generations will have minds and eyes that are open and aware rather than closed, sealed, and vile.it just occurred to me that I'm going to have to get yet another copy, as this second one does not contain the chapter on the launching of the USS Matthew Henson, a picture & partial paragraph of which were in my first (tho printed later) copy. I'm going to end up with a whole shelf of this book. But it's worth it.*Bizarre; I had to rewrite this review 4 or 5 times before Amazon stopped rejecting it...not sure if they objected to the "E" word that used to be used for the Inuit, or the 2nd word in Matthew Henson's own book...which is why his book isn't properly titled here. Somewhat absurd, given that the book is sold here (though not nearly enough).

found this in my local library, and it was a great read. For a neuroscientist to be the writer, he is also a good writer. One passage describes as Peary's wife, coming to the artic from New York City on a relief ship, must have seen an Inuit woman with a Inuit child of white skin complexion, and "must have understood. A stoic woman", as the book describes, decided in not saying anything. Very very detailed, it filled the dots in many areas. Would have liked a critical analysis of the 1912 Henson book "A Polar Explorer" in light of the culture during the time it was written, and how it would have been re-written today, since the book publication could only be possible after Peary's review. And would have also mentioned more about the meteorites found and hauled in the 1890's. But still, the amount of detail and effort in stringing it all together is majestic.

This is one of the best books I've ever read. It's endlessly fascinating. It's wonderfully open, inquisitive, unflinching, hilarious, and, above all, human. It's an exciting adventure, but at the same time an expertly researched work of scholarship. It mines fathoms into the human experience, what it means to be a human being, how race, family, and culture define or don't define us, and how prejudice destroys our humanity. I absolutely love this book and recommend it to anyone, unreservedly.

Wow. What a great read. The author does a excellent job of putting you on that hill in what was a frozen hell for the marines of fox company. I really couldn't image combat in 20 below temps with no medivacs and assaults by overwhelming numbers of Chinese soldiers. These men and all who served in the Korean War deserve or respect and recognition.

I knew in rough detail the overall story of the breakout from the Chosin Reservoir, but did not know anything about the related action by Fox Company of 2/7 Marines that held open the main road used during the breakout. I was also not aware that this action was considered one of the four "signature" battles of the USMC during the 20th Century, honored with a display at the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Quantico, VA. This is a well told story in which the authors weave the recollections of the survivors into an exciting first person narrative. The descriptions of the action are quite vivid and the authors manage to tie all the pieces together. The few maps used are more than adequate to allow the reader to reconcile topographical descriptions in the story and to understand how Fox Company and its opponents were deployed. An incredible story of a smaller unit holding out against more than 10 to 1 odds, but at great sacrifice. I saw this book on a store shelf and immediately went home and ordered the Kindle version, and read it in about 3 sittings. It holds the attention. Minor issues: would like to have seen photos added to the Kindle edition (they're in the hardcopy edition). It was hard to stop reading this book once I started it. Truly amazing how these Fox Company marines kept the road open for retreating Army and Marines. The sheer guts it took just to survive in the freezing temperatures, constant snow, and digging Fox holes in the frozen ground not counting the overwhelming Chinese forces they fought. This book should be required reading in history classes showing the sacrifice, tenacity, and courage of our Marine Corps. Thankfully, we have people like these protecting our country and freedoms.

This fast paced, well researched and well written account of one of the battles fought by Marines as the Chinese Army surrounded them at North Korea's Chosin Reservoir provides a vivid view of front line warfare. There is a little something here for everyone. For the armchair warrior who never was a Marine, this is a chance to see what it is/was like. For the compassionate soul who recognizes the human waste of war, this provides ample evidence, not just of the waste of American lives but also of the waste of Chinese lives. For the military tactician, here is a brilliant case study. For the psychology oriented reader interested in the behavior of men under stress, this book provides many examples of individual behavior and reassures us that despite the brutality of battle some soldiers on both sides see the humanity of their enemy. For the person curious about how soldiers get recommended for medals you see it here in the action of Lieutenant McCarthy; of course an officer has to survive to make his recommendations. Perhaps the real truth about medals is that everyone, from the lowest grunt to the Company commander should be decorated or none should be. The sarcastic reader will say that just about everyone in Fox Company earned a Purple Heart but that's not what I mean. In a story like this one either every Marine was just doing his job or each one was operating above and beyond the call of duty regardless of rank.Although little is said in this book about the leadership of the Korean War, enough is said to remind us all that those in high military command positions should hold command for strictly limited periods of time. Had this happened with McArthur, then perhaps this narcissistic, arrogant and ultimately megalomaniacal general would not have failed so miserably in his last great military assignment and caused the purposeless deaths of countless American and United Nations soldiers. And for those who revere the military command structure as somehow unfailing, there is enough here to underscore its tragic weaknesses. But even those can be overcome when field commanders receiving a series of consistently irrational orders disconnected from the reality on the ground, formulate and execute their own plans. In just a few words, this book illuminates the creative and hard headed thinking of Colonel "Blitzen" Litzen as the moment of truth arrives.I would recommend this book to anyone interested in military history at the "ground" level where the contest of arms is truly held and won or lost.

Make sure to read this book prior to reading any other travel book. At times I found it to be a bit heavy of a read, yet one necessary to understand how that "part of the world" operates and thinks. Historians, people interested in various cultures and even the casual travel reader will learn a wealth of information.

Fortunately I read the reviews and duly noted that the book focused on Bhutan, which was my main interest. Idally the book should be read before and after one's trip to Bhutan. I can now understand better why our seemingly competent Bhutanese guide offered such contradictory, confusing, and incredible explanations for the role of Buddhism in his wonderful country.At times, Crossette's book seemed a little disorganized and served more as a memoir than an analysis of vanishing Buddhist kingdoms.

This is a great book for those with a special in asian religion and history. The author brings to life the sights and sounds of Bhutan, Ladakh and Sikkim.

This is a current review of Bhutan and its modern challenges. I like that it presents impressions in an unbiased, matter-of-fact way and includes the "human" side of their society along with the Gross Domestic Happiness hearts and flowers stuff you see in most superficial treatments of the country. It makes the people more real, and more admirable for the compassionate traits they exhibit. There are also good sections on history and cosmology.

As many others have mentioned, Crossette's biases are evident, but this book nevertheless contains some fascinating insights and is entertaining at times. I'd really give it 3.5 stars.

This book provides a very comphrehensive view of the history of Bhutan and neighboring states. The book ends in the mid to late nineties, thus its characterization of 'modern' Bhutan is no longer accurate.

I'm going to be that guy who says, "I don't ever write reviews but I have to for this so the world can know" because I am that guy. This book has everything you need for review/preparation for anatomy quizzes, tests and more. Why you ask?1. It's simplicity. It is broken up to into the body compartments we all know and love. Provides you with questions and then answers.2. It's answers. The answers are extremely thorough yet don't cross the boundary of heedless excessiveness. The info is truly great3. It's ability to reinforce learning. As you read through its answers section, you'll find the "incorrect" answers are just as important as the "correct" ones. It will teach you why that choice was wrong, which is just as valuable as knowing the correct option. Thus you can learn a lot as you go through the "Answers" section.4. It's relevance. Though one can't simply make up anatomical parts (as most of them have already been discovered I hope!) often anatomy Q&As can go over anatomical minutia. This book will hone you in on what is important saving you from the mindless page flipping you end up doing to get to the good stuff.5. Cranial Nerves. It has a cranial nerve section. That's what I'm talkin' 'bout.Just a note:-It is rather clinically orientated (just so you know).

I took Dr. Lambert's class, actually. He's an excellent teacher and it's reflected well in his book. This book really prepared me well for the anatomy Shelf exam for my first year of medical school. I got in the 99th percentile after using it (and taking the class from some excellent teachers). This book is full of vignette-style questions hitting many hot topics and buzz words which will be seen on boards and in clinics, and there are amazing explanations of each answer (both right and wrong) at the end of the book. Well worth the money.

I was sick for over a week before a final exam, and I was not able to study nor attend class. For those of you who are medical students, you know this is practically suicide! However, I used this book almost exclusively to prepare for the written section of my exam, and I honestly think it made a difference between me passing and failing. This is a Q & A book, but all of the answers, including the incorrect ones, have detailed explanations. I was therefore able to pick up important concepts as I worked through the problems. I highly recommend purchasing this book.

Great book for question-style review. Thorough explanations of right and wrong answers. Not a great book for people who need a more in-depth re-learning of the material, but a great "test yourself" review book.
