This is like a trip through my childhood. I have been a TMNT fan for my entire life. I flip through this book quite often, more than any other book that I own. There is so much information and pictures of items that were lost in my childhood memory. It comes with some great extras, including a mini reproduction of Mirage issue #1. This book is a MUST have for any turtle fan and is great for teaching kids about the history of the turtles. Well worth the price!

Andrew Farago really outdid himself here. This is really "The Ultimate Visual History" for the Ninja Turtles. Farago provides a very detailed overview of the history of the franchise, covering everything from the very first comic issue to the upcoming movie to, yes, even The Next Mutation. There's an excellent balance between text and photos. The text is informative and substantive, but the large, color photos really provide a nice trip through memory lane. What really impressed me about the book though is that it contains copious inserts to give it the feel of a museum collection. There are paper inserts for things like flyers for Eastman and Laird's first comic convention sketches, and, most importantly, a historically accurate replication of the original TMNT comic (including the same advertisements from the first printing). Easily recommended for any TMNT fan.

Great book but I would have preferred the individual paper attachments to be unattached or put aside in a sleeve or something. I only say this because you can accidentally fold them when going through the book as they are loosely attached and tend to shift when turning pages. Other than that, it's a must have for any TMNT fan.

I LOVE THIS BOOK!!! Its perfect for ninja turtle fans young and old! It comes with little surprises within the pages. The content contains beautiful art pieces, different character concepts and photos from the movies, tv shows, etc. There is so much I could tell but I think it better to buy because its just amazing and you have to see for yourself. Plus its a cheap price than others in stores (always a plus)!! Its a great collectible and perfect gift idea too!!

I wished it had more information on like how the turtles were in each different series or movies. It mostly talked of behind the scenes of how each series got started, which is fine, but hear about it so much and it just gets boring. But I love the cover art, all the colorful pictures, and some of behind the scenes stuff. And there is a lot of stuff never before seen like ads and such about the turtles.And to top it off too is since the first comic also comes with the book too, I finally got to read the first comic book that when they were first starting out and the turtles became a huge success! I had seen all the movies and series before reading the comic, and it reminded me a lot of the first 2003 turtles episode. Course the 2003 shows were based a lot more off of the comic. But I've only read the first one, so I don't know much of anything else.

This book covers the entire saga of the turtles, starting with the comic book and covering the 80s series, the 3 live action films, Next Mutation, the early 2000s series and the subsequent CG movie, even has a chapter for Turtles Forever, the Nickolodeon series and the Bay movie. (yes, I am deliberately snubbing the Turtle Power documentary) It has info from all steps of the creative process and contains numerous sketches, storyboards, character art, concepts art, product photos, production photos, etc. Some of these pictures are glued into the book on top of other pictures, like there wasn't enough room for everything they wanted to put in there. From the outside, it looks like any other art book until you open it up and realize how much is in there. As a bonus, it comes with a reprint of volume 1 of the very first Turtles comic run. How's that for history?

The minute I saw this I knew I had to have it. Having been a turtle fan for just a couple of months, I was really curious as to how it all began, how things developed and what lays in store for TMNT in the future.And this book covers just about everything both new and old TMNT-fans could ask for!I love the concept art and all the little attachable notes everywhere, and I was sooo thrilled when I saw that the book came with the first TMNT comic book, dated back to 1984.Honestly it was the 2k12 version of the turtles that first caught my interest. Now I know how much more there is to TMNT, and I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves the turtles and wants to know about their origins - or just have the book for show because the picture on the cover is absolutely amazing.All in all; great, great book with tons of info and awesome and unique pictures. I haven't read it all yet, but I still feel that I've learned a lot just by reading the first 50 pages!

This nice, big, hardback book is incredible! The history of the turtles from start to finish. All the details you probably never heard of. Glossy full color pages and full spreads in stunning detail. Concept art from the original comics and the original 80s cartoons! Lots of surprises I don't want to ruin for you. I started at page one without looking ahead, and wasn't bored for a moment. A must have for any real turtle fan. Even includes....

All TMNT fans need this book. It's a "must have" for a TMNT collector. Everything is good... the cover design, its texture, the content, the inserts, and the photos of every version of the turtles. It's like a portable TMNT museum. One of the best parts of this book is the reprint of the very 1st issue of the TMNT comic by Eastman and Laird and it also includes a poster of its cover.

Generally a great book, very motivational, and in all sincerity quite inspiring. BUT I absolutely HATED the misogyny in some of the chapters. Why would you ruin an otherwise amazing book by including a few chapters riddled with unnecessary passages clearly intended to degrade women? Just a few examples: “gaping vaginas weeping and quitting like whiny little bitches” (p. 107), “Do you have some sand in your p—-y? (P. 134), etc., etc, Some of us women also kick ass and are hard. Please don’t minimize us or what we’ve worked so hard to achieve. Hope Goggins reads this and says, “Roger that” in response. Otherwise, it’s a fantastic book.

I think this would have been a much better read if he could have left out a large amount of the foul language. I understand it’s who he is and most likely how he talks in real life, but it was over the top. I’ve read other books by military members or Navy seals and always know I’ll have to over look a lot of language, but this was really excessive and over powering in this book. I wanted my boys to read this book and I love to share good books on social media and/or with my friends, but I won’t be encouraging anyone to read this book simply because the language is really too intense. To a point where it’s vulgar and embarrassing to recommend. Was disappointed. :(

He cusses too much and it ruins reading the book. Felt like I got ripped off buying the book . Made a bad mistake even reading book. What a waste of a triumph due to cussing.

I’ll keep this short and simple... this book will not give you motivation... It will instead give you the tools to change your life once and for all. It’s so powerful I purchased the hard copy and the audiobook. Extra note: the audiobook comes with lots of great bonus material in every chapter.... it’s worth getting even if you have a hard copy. Buy it, read it, listen to it, share it... change your life.

I never write reviews. However, I cannot put down this damn book. I listened to all of Goggin's podcast on Rogan, etc. and was hesitant to buy this because I thought I already knew his story. There is so much more going on in this book. You need get it.

As David gets vulnerable and reveals his life story. I began to cry as he detailed his brutal childhood. It got me thinking I don't have any excuse to be mediocre... Soon after that David tells to story of getting to BUDS and has me laughing as he explains the physical brutality that he learned to laugh his way through. It got me thinking again, I don't have any excuse to be mediocre. All through this book, David's life experience revealed that everything is a mind game and the more I can find a reason for being, then motivation, willpower, opinions, and fear all become irrelevant. The audio book has commentary between chapters that brings these stories to life. David does an incredible job and this book has changed the trajectory of my life. The 10 challenges are underway and I am excited to see where they take me. You will cry, you will laugh, you will ask yourself "am I capable of more?" and if you are like me, you will say yes and get to work... FWIW, I highly recommend this book

This book is different than the generic self help books that we have all read. David didn't just regurgitate what everyone else said about self improvement. He invented his own methods through trial and error. He is also not afraid to tap into something that our society has just about eliminated, negative reinforcement. My self-improvement journey was always hindered by too much positive reinforcement throughout my life. There is a place for this, but sometimes you just have to look in the mirror and call yourself out with brutal honesty, David literally does this daily.This book is as much an amazing story as it is a self-help book.

This book is more than just another self-help book. David Goggins is the real deal; a man who came from struggle and hardship, accomplished many impressive feats and became one of the toughest men alive. In this book he lays out his life story, with all the hardships he faced and how he came out stronger for it. With this book he doesn't just offer short term motivation but rather a deep shift in your mindset that will help you achieve your fullest potential, as long as you're willing to put in the work. After reading this book I finally understand what was wrong with my mentality and I can safely say that I now have a new attitude towards life and achieving my goals. Now I understand what it takes to live up to your full potential, which is something that 99% of people are never quite able to do. Here's a hint- it doesn't happen without suffering. This book is worth its weight in gold.

A must read for those who enjoy historical western romance kindle books from Amazon at a special price and from a delightful author who keeps me entertained throughout the entire book before putting it down. A very event filled story to read and enjoy.

This story even though it doesn't mention THE LORD GOD, implies throughout the redeming grace of HIM.Thank you for a story that was enjoyable to read. If only we knew the true stories of those who went through this kind of life!

I wish the story were longer. Hope there is a continuation of Hanks new bride to be from out east comes along as well.

I rented this because it was required for a class. It was not a bad read, and the authors did a good job of making some of the material, which could be dry, understandable. I think this book should be required reading for healthcare managers as it gives a wealth of information on how to manage people in the best way possible with plenty of examples and exercises.

This is more a review for the book itself, not the condition of my shipping backage or anything. I wish this book was more succinct/to the point! It’s one of those that goes on and on and says the same thing three times in different ways and each time sites a bunch of people. In one ear/out the other type of info; it just doesn’t make it stick. Not to mention the online resources SUCK!!! There’s not even chapter summaries online! Or any practice quizzes! It’s literally “related” journal articles aaaand that’s about it. Wish my class used a different book.

It's fine. The online student resources are pretty much worthless, though.

I liked that the book was digital. I appreciated some of the data in the book was valid but some of the points were out dated (eg. referring to people with disabilities as “handicapped”, etc.) made me doubt the authors and their credentials.

I compared this text book to that of other students’ textbooks. This one is full of editing errors.Terrible!

Do NOT buy the kindle edition of this book! If you enjoy making up page numbers for citations, I suppose it's great. There are only location numbers, which I've never understood when one buys an expensive Kindle version. The only advantage is instant delivery. The rest is a journey in frustration. Save your time, money and frustration and just buy the physical book.

It is a small book for experienced developers. In my particular case, it is a great addition to my library. The first four chapters are still some what considered basic in my opinion but very useful. Especially if you haven't ever use the Kinect. Note that the book is all based in C# and WPF. While it is ok, I'm just a C++ Lover, so I wish everything was in C++.The real meat of the book starts in Chapter 5 in terms of gestures and postures.Also, the price of the book here in amazon makes it extremely tempting to buy it. It is only 17.

How do I do multiple players? That's the one material I did not see covered but this is more then likely going to be covered in a new book. Overall, great book! I recommend for anyone looking for learning the basic of Kinect. It goes through everything in a detailed manner such as gestures and such.

The Kinect Toolbox framework has been very useful for me, yet the boo does not give much. It is an extended version of source code comments.

I’m only giving this book 2 stars because I have only read two chapters, but I feel like it should be 1 star. Essentially at the end of each chapter is something being advertised. I agree with what the author is trying to say, however it seems like he sold out to ridiculous companies that won’t be around in 5 years. I imagine the 2nd edition will be be out next year. This is due to these ridiculous products being advertised and he will have to constantly update to new companies or new products.

This book continually reinforces how connected the Mind and Body really are. And more importantly, how enhancing both Mind and Body is ESSENTIAL in reaching the desired outcomes we have for our lives, efficiently and effectively.I love that the book is laid out like a roadmap of strategies I can apply immediately to boost my personal journey to success.I can pick and choose which strategies to try. His personal stories and expert interviews make it easy for me to decide which strategy I'd like to try first.I have no doubt that applying just a couple of these examples will get you some positive results. Applying multiple strategies at once might be like adding rocket fuel to your personal success journey.I was so excited over all the new suggestions to try that I needed to take a little break from reading to integrate all the new information. One week removed from finishing the book and I've already started implementing some of the tips from the book and I'm excited to build this new foundation AND to learn more about myself and my true capacity to do and BE more!I'm currently enrolled in Ben's 13-week challenge and can't wait to dive in!WORTH THE READ is an understatement for anyone looking to bio-hack their results in all aspects of their lives!

This book helped me see the sexism and double-standards that women and men are shown throughout our culture. It helped me confront some of the realities that, as a man, I've often been allowed and encouraged to ignore. I now understand why "Knocked Up", a movie I liked, gave me a visceral feeling that something was "just wrong" with the portrayal of the female characters. It also explained why I sympathized with Katherine Heigl when she was attacked for speaking out about the sexism she felt when the movie was made. Chocano provides an encyclopedia of scenarios that make a guy say, "Oh yeah... That's kind of messed up, isn't it?"The book isn't the simplest of reads. At times, Chocano quotes or cites a passage as if all of her readers will know who or what she is talking about. But, I was not familiar with many of the references she was making. This may be exactly the point - that men do not see or read or notice these things - but it also makes it harder for me to follow along. Luckily, Chocano provides extensive references to source material, which may help me fill in the blanks. Chocano sometimes uses a vocabulary that is hard to follow unless you're getting your graduate degree in English, which I am not. Reading on a hard-copy, I didn't stop to look up every unknown word along the way. I think this will prevent the book from being as widely-read as the author and I would like it to be. Nonetheless, I suspect "You Play the Girl" will help me call B.S. on my buddies, my colleagues, and myself when we make flawed statements about the women in our lives and in the media. I suspect it will also help women call B.S. on a society that will otherwise continue to ask them to play the girl.

This is a fascinating critique of sexism in television and film--and why it matters in an America that is teeming with guns, gun movies, and shooting massacres; in a society that denies family benefits like affordable child care and health care. It is made all the more timely by the downfall of Harvey Weinstein and the festering mistreatment of women in Hollywood, on and off screen, just after the release of the book.

Few books have been as enlightening to me as this one. Carina Chocano carefully unpicks the ways in which women are portrayed in media and skillfully puts into words the feelings many of us have had about characters we thought were problematic, but couldn't articulate why we thought that way. I cannot recommend this book enough--it's changed my own writing as well as how I look at the world.

This is a wonderful book about the less than wonderful mixed messages that women get from pop culture. It's a story about a woman trying to raise a young daughter in a world of Playboy, The Bachelor and, of course, Frozen. It's funny, sad and always thought-provoking, especially for men who are practically taught from birth to objectify women.

If this gets lost in the back shelves of feminist anthropology, I will be angry. This is a must-read for all women, a mainstream book where a smart mom (does that make it sound more palatable? okay, good) connects the dots between everything she's seen in the movies and then highlights them in fear for her own little girl. It's smart, funny and dense with good information. Read a chapter a day, but remember your highlighter. You'll want to quote it.

157 highlights! That's how many I have. You know that point where it starts to feel ridiculous because you're highlighting EVERYTHING? I reached that point about halfway through the Kindle edition. I have also purchased hard copies to hand out to friends and a hard copy to have signed because.... full disclosure: I am a friend of the author. So you can take my recommendation with a grain of salt, but here is something only a friend of the author can tell you: reading this book IS just exactly like hanging out and talking pop culture with one of your coolest smartest friends.

I’ve never written an Amazon review before. I’m afraid to go down that rabbit hole. Still, I will risk it, because I think this is an exceptional book that needs to be read. I was never asked directly to write this. I don’t know the writer personally. But I was a huge fan of her work when she was a movie critic, no, film critic, at the Los Angeles Times. She was and is still my favorite film critic, and it made me sad when I stopped getting to read her reviews every week. No one else has filled, or perhaps can fill, the gaping hole in popular film criticism that currently exists with her departure.So, on a whim, a few months ago, I looked to see if maybe she had any books on Amazon. There was an opportunity to pre-order this book, and though it didn't seem like it would be pure film criticism, it seemed it would have some, so I took an inexpensive risk and pre-ordered. That said, I, like most men, normally would never have bought a book ostensibly on feminism.Don’t get me wrong, if someone was to ask me if I considered myself a feminist, I’d say yes. If someone was to tell me there was a feminist movie, would I want to see it, I’d say… Depends entirely if it is well written and executed. I don't care at all about a film’s subject matter or genre if it is well written. Now, something as potentially dry as a collection of essays largely around the idea of feminism… I guess again it would come down to whether I thought it would be well written. Luckily, I knew her work, so I bought it, and no surprise, I enjoyed it immensely.But, like any review by my favorite film critic, I cannot just give a glowing review that highlights only the good. So I will point out one “negative.” However, like a job applicant trying to be crafty, I will try to make this “greatest weakness” seem like an actual strength. But, unlike most job applicants, I actually believe it is. It will make you sad. At least, it sure made me sad.For me, reading Carina’s articles meant the joke was on Hollywood, and neither her nor I were complicit in creating the scenarioes nor recipients of their shame. But in this book you read how it affects her, how she is on the receiving end. Here you read how you, as part of society, intending or not, are complicit. You read how you are also receiving it to not just her, and so will the ones you love, and future loves ones (I couldn't help but worry while reading it about any future daughters I may have, especially as she speaks of her own daughter). Obviously, if you are man, then you don’t receive the “joke” of sexism as bad, but unless you lack empathy and enjoy margitalizing people directly or indirectly, it will make you sad. And, no, she doesn't give pat solutions.I think, and I doubt she’d disagree, we need more women representation. More women need to write, but also have the ability and power to distribute that vision unfettered. The aparatus, clearly, doesn't exist, certainly not on large scales. Chocano demonstrates that even the mainstream culture that is somewhat aligned to female expression or potentially feminist ideas are hampered and hobbled. I think that it really doesn’t matter what women write or express about, there just simply needs to be more, and with it more dimensionality will come.Chocano makes her point exceptionally well, there is less dimensionality in women characters, there are certain roles for women, certain character sets, that are the only ones available for female actresses to portray. Women come off as set pieces and bland one-note plot devices that way. She’s right, time and again, they don’t do anything in their depictions, things are done to them by male protagonists, who are the only fleshed out agents of change. I read this, and I realize as a writer of fiction myself, that I’ve done the same thing at times, and don’t even realize it because it seems “natural,” that's how everywhere it seems women are depicted. (Thus, writers, this book will help you be a better fiction writer.)I think, after reading this book, if all we experienced in popular culture were narratives controlled and proferred by women, men would have been the one dimensional characters. It seems the number of dimensions decrease with every degree from the depictor, if women were in more control in creating the narratives, more multi-dimensioned women would be depicted. The fact there are so few depictions than “the girl,” with her tightly contorted few options for realization, is a sad reflection on how much female control there is in cultural depiction. That seems to be Chocano’s main argument, and I can’t help but agree.There's far more to talk about with regards to this book. For example, if your gender’s depictions have been molded over time, and create your world, what are you after you try to cast them aside? Can it even be determined? It’s an obviously open-ended question.So, yes it made me sad, but I feel I have learned a lot, and I can try to apply it to my writing and interpersonal relations. Hopefully more people will read it too. Even if you have no desire in the subject, it doesn't matter, she is a writer of the highest degree, you’ll probably end up with more interest than you started. It will make you think, it will entertain you, it will make it worth it.

It grabbed me by the hand and forced me to look back into my life.... I loved it!
