This book boils down to adapting some parts of The Art of War for occult use. It does this well enough, but it's inescapable that it loses some originality in doing this, and it's hard to use this in everyday life. But for what it is, it does an okay job. It's not very in-depth in discussing any actual attack technique or simulated strategy, though, so it has room for improvement.

Worth going over concepts but don't get hopes up too high

What I found most interesting about this book, and perhaps the most difficult, was the assumption on the part of the author that the reader is capable of extremely advanced magical workings. The majority of the boook, and not suprisingly so given the Sun Tzu roots, focuses on what can best be described as battle magick. There is much mention of the use of offensive magick (hexes, curses, energy attacks) and defensive magick (sheilding, binding, protective enchantments). While I am pleased to have found such a directly informative, and completely unapologetic, book about the philosophy and application of such magick, I will say that the book is not a good tool for beginners. The novice will find it confusing and seemingly only a small departure from the source text, while in truth it is quite a step beyond just the world of physical weapons.

What a cool book! It's nice to see that someone finally took the time to give their input on something like this!The best thing about this book is the fact that it goes along well with Seth's other books...Get them all...!

I can see how this book could be helpful to somebody who is already very good at magick. They would be able to interpret what to do. This book just talks about tactics, which are helpful (if you have a weapon). I wouldn't recommend it to the beginner, but if you already know how to use it it may come of some use.

Great tips on what to look for, how to prepare your items for sale, displaying your items, taking good pictures, how to setup your eBay seller's account, and how to list your items. Great read!

I like science. I tend to like Science-y books. I am conflicted about this one. There are some very interesting factoids in this book, especially about the universe and the elements. The illustrations are in black and white and rather bland but I got past those easily. What I did not enjoy was the writing style. The authors are attempting to show science in a nerdy comical way but it just fell flat for me. For instance, there is a personality "quiz" which has nothing to do with personality and everything to do with being a page filler that did not contribute anything very scientific and wasn't very funny. Some of the experiments were complicated like buying a super neodymium magnet which can cut you and cause blisters just to be able to see the iron fortification in your food blended unappetizing Lucky Charms.Many times the authors digress from their science-y stuff into tangents that I skipped over like the voices in one of the author's heads. There are times the writing lapses into snarkiness like the sex section. The authors let us know that, yes, "Nerds do IT." And they let the reader know a paragraph later they mean "SEX! SEX! SEEEEEXX!!!" This is a straight quote from the book.This book is not without merit though. As I stated, the elements chapter is truly fascinating and the examples are very well researched and incredibly interesting. The illustrations look like doodles but that did not take away from the truly amazing information. I just wish more of the book had been dedicated to these intriguing everyday science-y things around us instead of some of the experiments that were not that interesting, like making static electricity.

The Element In The Room contains a fair bit of interesting scientific fact, presented in the sort of breezy and self-consciously clever manner that is typical of much of contemporary popular science these days. One gets the impression that the authors are apologizing in advance- yes, it’s science, but we’re not really taking it seriously. And there are no tests. Everyone gets an A!Once you get past the style there’s a fair bit of interesting scientific fact, although the authors sometimes dumb the presentation down so much that you wonder who they thought their audience would be. Consider this summary of entropy:- Energy is only useful when it’s clumped together- When you use that energy to do something useful it spreads out- Once it’s spread out, you can’t use it anymore.That strikes me as insufficient an explanation for elementary school students, and yet this book is aimed at adults. There are also several errors that should have been caught before publication. For instance, most menthol is made from peppermint oil, not turpentine. On page 47 we learn that 15th Century Peruvians freeze dried their crops in the mountains. What they dried was potatoes, to remove the solanine, and they still do it to this day. On page 116 we learn that “while the mercury in thermometers has been replaced with colored alcohol, there’s no alternative for energy saving bulbs” while might have been true a decade ago, but by the time this book was published CFLs were obsolete, replaced by energy saving, lead free LEDs.What really ruins this book for me is the horrible, amateurish, quality of the illustrations, most of which appear to be hand drawn or traced by someone who is not a particularly skilled artist. In many instances the illustrations are so bad that they don’t even convey the point the text is making. On page 75 there’s an illustration of the classic “Shepard’s table” illusion, in which two tables rotated 90 degrees from each other appear to be different sizes, but when measured are shown to be identical. In this instance, however, measurement reveals that the crudely drawn tables are obviously grossly different from one another. In fact, with just one exception, none of the optical illusions in this chapter show the effect described, thanks to the poor reproduction.While I wanted to like this book, it’s sloppy, poorly presented, and amateurishly illustrated. Not recommended.

I took this book to review because Zach Weinersmith recommended it and his book Soonish, is one of my favorite this year. I am a science (and math) geek.This book is a whole bunch of weird/interesting/experimental science tidbits. These tidbits are grouped together by subject. It has a lot of white space and really does not lend itself to reading cover to cover. This is more a book that you read a few sections of when you have a bit of time. Like snacking, rather than eating.Most people who are science geeks will pick up a few new things, I would say about 15% of this book was something I had not previously heard of. Overall the level of writing is pretty straightforward, a reasonably bright junior high student can understand at least 90% of this book. In fact, that might be the sweet spot for this book, smart middle school students who love cool science facts up to high school science students. I would, however, make sure they have supervision if making the fire tornado.Overall a fun light book written at a level that even those with a minor interest in science can comprehend. There are some freaky experiments included, sprinkled among lots of weird and quirky science facts.

I prefer the retro pictures & this year I really liked the retro vibe & the lines & the round coke “sign” logo on either side of the “month” lettering; also the bold lines for the date squares. All in all, a retro feel to our coke calendar.

I thought this book would have pictures to help explain the how-to's, step-by-step process but unfortunately nope. Also, the pages have no numbers so I found myself having to pencil it in after hunting down certain topics. I still have some questions as a beginner to indoor gardening. I love the front cover picture but that's as good as it gets, concerning pictures.

This book acts as a great introduction to different kinds of gardening techniques. It's not really about how to best sustain a plant. For that, you would need to do more specific reaseach about the plants you are interested in. But, it still acts as a great blueprint to give you ideas about what kind of a garden you want to have and instructions about how to assemble it. The information is very practical and easy to understand.

But no illustrations or photos. There are fairly detailed instructions for building a PVC vertical garden, hydroponic and aqua phonic systems, but no visuals to accompany the instructions. Just a few pics would go a long way towards clarification.

Virginia Henley is the master of Medieval Romance and The Falcon and the Flower is one of the best ever written. Vivid and dynamic, it follows the story of a young woman and her chosen knight through the turmoil of King John's reign. This is what got me hooked on Medieval Romance from the start and this book should be in the library of every Medieval Romance lover. I can't recommend this novel highly enough. All Hail, Queen Virginia!

The Flower: ok so I can understand how she became a spoiled little annoying girl but after a while you just got to ask: is she ever going to learn and try something else? She's a stupid, spoiled, and stubborn girl. That's all. Over and over it's the same thing, she doesn't try anything new, even for better or worse when he does something so horrible to her (read further).The Falcon: Hate him. As other reviewers have put: he hits her, and once at the very end when you're just, "oh come on! haven't you changed YET?!" He's also a pig, who thinks one thing so sadly and understandably that you think that he's finally caught on and might change, but nope! HUGE SPOILER ALERT!!!!: he rapes her. And the FIRST time "I guess" I can understand his reasoning but then he does it again... and again, and again. And this isn't like other books (which are still sick) where the woman says no and tries to resist, but his skills and fire sooo ignite her to hott hott sex. NOPE!! She pleads and cries for him to stop, when she realizes he won't she freezes and makes her mind go away, somewhere far away, other than there. It's nothing more than rape! Several rapes! Each time after he's either angry (at her!) or feels bad, and when he feels bad that quickly turns to lust 10 pages later when he continues his raping or fondling of her as she pleads for him to stop.Over all, this is a looong book where we get a lot of pages where they fight, yell, and say mean things, plus him and his lust, but then BAM!! LUST!!! and after one night over sex (of 3) she's telling him she loves him. Nowhere before that is there any hidden message that she's holding back and does like him. I mean, she stares at his chest a few times, but ladies... that's the only connection I can find before she's sprouting I love you to him... and after he hits and rapes her!! Classic Stockholm syndrome!!!I wish I can get my $8 back and have the publishers pay me for my wasted time.Both characters disgust me. THIS IS NOT A ROMANCE!! I wish other reviews had warned me of the rapes and not just the hitting (which I can explain away by the time period) so I hope others find this review helpful.

A delicate flower physically, Jasmine has vowed that no man will ever rule her heart. One day she sees the face of a dark knight in her crystal ball, and later, encountering him at Stonehenge, thinks he's the Devil. When her father betroths her to the same knight, Falcon de Burgh, she hopes to resist the marriage. In a bargain with Falcon, she is allowed to be lady in waiting to the young Queen Isabella. It is there that King John takes a fancy to Jasmine, coveting her virginity for himself. His plan is to wed her to one of his noblemen and then take his pleasure as he does with the other ladies at court. But Falcon will come to her rescue and force her to wed for her protection.This story kept me reading late into the night. There are many twists and turns and both Jasmine and Falcon treat each other badly as they resist the call of true love. As always, Henley masterfully weaves in history as she serves up a lusty tale with wonderful characters. I recommend it.
